Questions
Questions families ask us
Everything we are asked before a family signs up, answered plainly. If your question is not here, write to [email protected] and we will answer it — and probably add it.
Who it is for, and the phone
Is Meenira only for parents? No. You can set it up for anyone you look after from a distance — a mother or father, a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a sibling, an old neighbour — anyone near and dear who would welcome a daily call in their own language. The rest of this page says "parent" for short.
Does my parent need a smartphone? No. Meenira rings an ordinary phone — a landline or the most basic mobile. There is nothing to install, open or press. The phone rings; they answer.
Does it work on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL? Yes. It is a normal telephone call to an Indian number on any network, including landlines.
What if my parent doesn't want to talk to a robot? Many don't, at first. Meenira says plainly that she is calling on your behalf, and most parents settle once they understand you asked her to. If they would rather she didn't call, that is their choice, and you can stop any time.
How does my parent agree to the calls? When you set them up, they get a message on their own phone, in their own language, explaining who asked, how often the calls would come and that the call is written down — with a four-digit code to give you if they agree. Nothing is dialled until you enter that code.
The call
Which languages does she speak? Eleven: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia and Assamese — with the respectful forms and the right word for mother. Your summary comes in English. Hear each one on the languages page.
What if my mother switches to Hindi or English mid-call? She follows, and stays in that language as long as your mother does.
What time does she call? Whatever time you choose, in your parent's time zone. Most families pick mid-morning, after breakfast and the tablets.
Can she call every day, or just some days? Either: twice a week, every other day, or every morning. The free month is twice a week.
What happens if my parent doesn't pick up? She tries again a little later. If there is still no answer, you are told that morning.
What does she actually ask? How they slept, whether they have eaten, the tablets, any pain or worry, whether they need anything — and then whatever your parent wants to talk about, which matters more. If the knee was sore yesterday, she asks about the knee today.
Safety
What happens if there's a real emergency? Meenira is not a doctor or an emergency service. What she can do is notice when something sounds wrong — a fall, chest pain, confusion — and send you an urgent message straight away rather than waiting for the morning summary. The call to a doctor, a neighbour or 108 stays with you. More on the safety page.
Does she give medical advice? No. She does not diagnose, suggest doses, or interpret reports, and will say so if asked.
Can she protect my parent from phone scams? She can help. She never asks for codes, bank or card details, and the notes drop them if they are spoken. If your parent mentions a stranger asking for money or a code, you are told straight away.
Is Meenira a person? No, and she never pretends to be.
What we keep
Is the call recorded? Your parent is told at the start of every call that it is recorded and who it is for. The recording is turned into text and deleted; the text is kept for thirty days, then deleted too. The detail is on the privacy page.
Can my parent tell her something in confidence? Yes. Those notes are never shown to the family; you are told they exist, never what is in them.
Isn't this a bit like surveillance? We built the opposite. She asks after your parent the way a kind neighbour would, and gathers nothing beyond the call.
What does Meenira remember, and can I correct it? People, routines, topics and health threads. You can see, correct or remove them on your Home page. You cannot add memories.
Money and accounts
How much does it cost? The first month is free: two calls a week, eight in all. Then ₹300, ₹500 or ₹800 a month depending on how often she calls, GST included. No setup fee, no contract. See pricing.
Can I pay from the US, the UK or the Gulf? Yes, in rupees, with an international card. Payments go live shortly; until then the first month is free for everyone and you will not be asked for a card.
Can I set it up for more than one person? Yes — both parents, a parent and a grandparent, a sibling who lives alone. Each has their own calls, language, time and notes, on one Home page.
Can my sibling see the calls too? Not yet; for now, forward the summary.
How do I pause or stop? From your Home page, in a tap. Pausing keeps everything; stopping deletes the notes. You can set it up again any time.
Us
Who is behind Meenira? An Indian company founded in 2026 by Tapas Kar. See about.
How is this different from just ringing them myself? It gives your call back to you. When you already know they slept well and took their tablets, your evening call can be about the cricket, or the grandchildren, or nothing much at all.

Which languages does she speak?
Eleven: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia and Assamese. She speaks the one your parent is most comfortable in, with the respectful forms and the right word for mother. Your summary comes in English.
What if my mother switches to Hindi or English mid-call?
She follows. If your mother answers in Hindi or English, Meenira replies in that language and stays in it as long as she does.
What time does she call?
Whatever time you choose, in your parent's time zone. Most families pick mid-morning, after breakfast and the tablets. You can change it from your Home page.
Can she call every day, or just some days?
Either. Twice a week, every other day, or every morning. The free month is twice a week.
What happens if my parent doesn't pick up?
She tries again a little later. If there is still no answer, you are told that morning, so you can decide whether to ring yourself.
What does she actually ask?
How they slept, whether they have eaten, the tablets, any pain or worry, and whether they need anything — and then whatever your parent wants to talk about, which matters more. If your parent mentioned a sore knee yesterday, she asks about the knee today.

Does she give medical advice?
No. She does not diagnose, suggest doses, or interpret reports, and she will say so if asked. She notices and tells you.
Is the call recorded?
Your parent is told at the start of every call that it is recorded and who it is for. The recording is turned into text and deleted; the text is kept for thirty days so we can tell you how they are, then deleted too.
Can my parent tell her something in confidence?
Yes. If your parent asks Meenira to keep something to herself, it is not shown to the family. You are told that such notes exist, never what is in them.
Isn't this a bit like surveillance?
We built the opposite. Meenira asks after your parent the way a kind neighbour would. She doesn't listen in on their day, track them, or gather anything beyond the call. Your parent knows she is calling, knows why, and can end any conversation.
What do I receive after a call?
A short, plain message on WhatsApp or SMS: how they sounded, what they said, anything worth knowing. On your Home page you can also read the whole conversation for thirty days and see the slow things — sleep, mood, tablets — over the last month.
Can I pay from the US, the UK or the Gulf?
Yes. Payment is in Indian rupees; international cards are accepted. (Payments go live shortly; until then the first month is free for everyone and you will not be asked for a card.)
How much does it cost?
The first month is free: two calls a week, eight in all. Then ₹300 a month for twice a week, ₹500 for every other day, or ₹800 for every morning. Prices include GST. No setup fee, no contract.
Can I set it up for more than one person?
Yes — both parents, a parent and a grandparent, a sibling who lives alone. Each person has their own calls, language, time and notes, and you see them all on one Home page. Each is a separate subscription.
My parent doesn't live alone — is this still for us?
Yes. However full the house, the call is a few warm minutes that are theirs alone, and the summary still comes to you. Someone checks in every morning, even on the days everyone else is busy.
Can my sibling see the calls too?
Not yet. Today one family account looks after a parent. Sharing with a sibling is on the way; for now, forward the summary.
How do I pause while she is travelling or at a wedding?
From your Home page: pause for a week, a fortnight or a month, or until a date. Nothing is deleted, and the calls pick up again by themselves.
How do I stop completely?
In a tap, from your Home page, with no reason to give. The calls stop at once and the notes are deleted. You can set it up again any time.
What does Meenira remember, and can I correct it?
People, routines, topics and health threads — the grandson's exam, Thursday at the temple, the knee since 4 September. You can see them on your Home page and correct or remove any of them. You cannot add memories: those come from what your parent says.
Can she protect my parent from phone scams?
She can help. She never asks for codes, bank or card details, and the notes drop them if they are spoken. If your parent mentions a stranger asking for money or a code, you are told straight away.
Is Meenira a person?
No, and she never pretends to be. She introduces herself as your assistant on every call. Her voice is warm because a cold voice would be unkind to talk to, not to fool anyone.
Who is behind Meenira?
An Indian company founded in 2026 by Tapas Kar. See the About page.
How is this different from just ringing them myself?
It gives your call back to you. When you already know they slept well and took their tablets, your evening call can be about the cricket, or the grandchildren, or nothing much at all.
