About

A morning call, so your call home can be a call home.

By Tapas Kar, founder · Last updated 2 October 2026

Meenira is an AI voice assistant that rings an elderly parent — or a grandparent, a sibling, anyone near and dear — in India every morning in their own language, remembers from one call to the next, and tells you how they are. It is built and run by its founder, Tapas Kar.

Why it exists

You move away for work. The people you love stay in the house you grew up in. And one evening the phone rings out, and you spend the rest of the day imagining the worst. They were fine, of course. The phone was in the other room.

The care companies can send a nurse once a week; the apps need a smartphone and someone willing to learn one. Nobody would simply ring them every morning, in the language they think in, and tell you how they were.

So that is what Meenira does. She rings on an ordinary phone, in one of eleven Indian languages, has a short unhurried chat, remembers what was said, and sends you a plain message. If something sounds wrong, you hear straight away.

Who it is for

Anyone you look after from a distance: a mother or father, a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a sibling, an old neighbour — anyone near and dear who would welcome a daily call in their own language. You choose who, how often, and at what time.

What Meenira is, and is not

Who makes it

Meenira is built and run by its founder, Tapas Kar, and is an Indian company. The eleven languages — the respectful forms, the right verb for a mother and for a father, each language's own word for "mother" — were worked out on real calls, not from a phrasebook.

How this site is written

Pages here are drafted with AI tools and then edited and signed by the founder. Every number carries its source, every sample call is marked as voiced for the demo, and every claim about what Meenira does is one the product actually does. If you find something that is not true, write to [email protected] and it will be fixed.
