How we handle your parent's words
The recording of your parent's voice is never kept. The call is turned into written notes, which are kept for thirty days so you can be told how they are, then deleted. Your parent is told at the start of every call that it is recorded. Stopping the calls deletes the notes.
What we collect, and why
From you (the family member who signs up): your mobile number, which is how you sign in and where the messages go; your name; your parent's name, number, language, the time to call, and anything you tell us is worth asking about (the knee, the tablets after breakfast).
From your parent, on the calls: what is said on the call. The call is transcribed in real time so that we can tell you how your parent is. The audio itself is processed as the call happens and is not stored.
Memory: so that Meenira does not ask the same questions by a stranger each day, she keeps a small set of notes about your parent's life — people, routines, a health thread like "knee pain since 4 September", things she has promised to ask about. Your parent can ask her to keep something to herself; those notes are never shown to the family.
What we keep, and for how long
| What | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Recording of the call | Not kept | It is turned into text as the call happens and the audio is discarded |
| Written notes of the call (the transcript and summary) | 30 days | So you can look back over a week or two, then they are deleted |
| What Meenira remembers (people, routines, health threads) | While the calls continue | So she can follow up tomorrow on what was said today |
| The message we sent you after each call | 30 days, with the notes | |
| Your account and your parent's details | While you use the service | |
| The consent record (who agreed, when, how) | Kept | This is the legal record that the calls were agreed to |
When you stop the calls, the notes and what Meenira remembers are deleted. You can download everything we hold about your parent at any time from the Home page.
Consent — your parent's, not only yours
Nothing is dialled until your parent has agreed. When you set them up, they receive a message on their own phone, in their own language, saying who asked, how often the calls would come, that the call is written down so you can be told how they are, and a four-digit code to give you if they agree. If they would rather not, they do nothing and no call is ever made.
On every call, before anything else, Meenira says in their language who she is, who she is calling for, and that the call is recorded. A parent who does not want to talk today can say so, and that is the end of it. A parent who tells her to stop calling is listened to, and you are told.
Who sees what
- You see the summary after each call, the notes for thirty days, what Meenira remembers (except what your parent asked her to keep to herself), and any alert.
- Your parent is told what the calls are for. They are never listened to in secret.
- Meenira's operator (the company) can review calls where a safety rule fired — a crisis signal, or a sentence the assistant should not have said — so that the system is corrected. Those reviews are logged.
- Nobody else. We do not sell or share your parent's words with anyone.
Who processes the data for us
- Twilio places the telephone calls and sends SMS. Call audio passes through Twilio to reach the phone network.
- Google (Gemini) processes the live audio of the call to understand and reply, and writes the summary. Audio is processed in real time and is not retained by us.
- Fly.io hosts our servers. Notes and account details are stored on our server in Singapore.
- Meta (WhatsApp), when WhatsApp delivery is enabled, carries the messages to you.
Things we deliberately do not do
- We do not store your parent's voice.
- We do not keep notes longer than thirty days.
- We do not diagnose, give medical advice, or interpret reports.
- We do not let the assistant pretend to be a person.
- We do not track your parent's location or anything beyond the call.
- We do not use your parent's words to train anyone's models.
Scams and secrets
If anyone on a call mentions a one-time code, a bank account, a card number or an Aadhaar number, the number is removed from the notes before they are stored. The fact that someone asked for it is kept, because that is exactly what you need to know.
Your rights
You can see everything we hold about your parent (download it from Home), correct what Meenira remembers, pause or stop the calls in a tap, and have everything deleted. We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Questions, or anything here that is not true: [email protected].
