Meenira is an AI voice assistant that telephones elderly parents in India every morning in one of eleven Indian languages and tells their children abroad how they are. Founded in 2026 by Tapas Kar. Everything on this page may be quoted; write to [email protected] for interviews.
Five facts
- Meenira rings a parent on an ordinary phone: nothing to install, buy or learn.
- She speaks eleven Indian languages — Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia and Assamese — with the respectful forms and each language's own word for "mother".
- The parent consents first, by a code sent to their own phone; every call opens by saying who is calling and that it is recorded. The recording is never kept.
- The family gets a plain message after each call and an urgent message straight away if something sounds wrong. Meenira is not a doctor and not an emergency service.
- First month free, then ₹300, ₹500 or ₹800 a month depending on how often she calls.

50 words. Meenira telephones an elderly parent in India every morning in one of eleven Indian languages, has a short warm chat, remembers from one call to the next, and sends the family a plain summary — with an urgent message straight away if something sounds wrong. The parent needs only an ordinary phone.
100 words. Meenira is an AI voice assistant built for the forty million Indians whose parents — or grandparents, or anyone near and dear — live far away. Every morning she rings the parent on an ordinary phone, in one of eleven Indian languages, and has a short unhurried conversation: how they slept, whether they have eaten, the knee that was hurting yesterday. She remembers from one call to the next and sends the family a plain WhatsApp or SMS summary, with an urgent message straight away if something sounds wrong. The parent agrees first, by a code to their own phone, and is told on every call that it is recorded. Founded in 2026 by Tapas Kar.
